    Frequently asked questions

    ADC12 or A356 — which should I use?
    ADC12/A380 for complex thin-wall parts where castability and cost rule; A356 with T6 when you need structural strength, ductility or anodised cosmetics. The engineering review includes this comparison.
    Can aluminum castings be anodised?
    Cosmetic anodising needs A356 (low silicon); ADC12/A380 anodise poorly and grey. For dark cosmetic finishes on ADC12, powder coat or e-coat are the engineered routes.
    How do you handle porosity?
    Gate and overflow design, vacuum assist where justified, X-ray inspection against agreed acceptance criteria, and impregnation for pressure applications — documented in the quality file.
    Do castings ship machined and finished?
    Yes. Most programs deliver machined, surface-treated, sub-assembled castings with CMM data — line-ready, single quality file.
    What volumes make casting economic?
    HPDC typically pays from around 5,000 parts per year; below that, CNC from billet or gravity casting usually wins. The quote states the crossover for your part.
